"Three years ago I purchased "Redford", a small, 20 year old Quarter horse gelding to be the companion horse for my old Holsteiner and to be a gentle riding horse for my small grandchildren. For 9 months he was a perfect addition to our barn. Then we noticed his sheath was swollen. The Vet came and gave him 3 days of Penicillin for the 3 lesions inside his sheath. The lesions did not heal. My Vet said we would have to take him to another Veterinarian for a cancer operation. I could not afford to take Redford to the recommended Vet for surgery and treatment. I called Katharine, our trainer with the grim news. She said, "Dry your tears, I think I have the answer to your problem". We went to our local health food store where she picked out some herbs. Then I went home with Katharine's recipe and simmered up a batch of medicine. I cooled it, put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it into his sheath twice a day. Slowly the lesions healed. Puppy in serious trouble:
This is the true story of Kato, a three month Akita puppy. In October of 2008, my husband and I picked up 2 puppies, a brother and sister - the last of a large litter (we went for the female, Kia). Kato was quiet, with large feet, ears, well...everything! He was limping on the right front, I thought it was a thorn, something simple. The next day he had a fever and his left hind leg was swollen from his groin to almost his foot. I took him to the Vet - gloom and doom he said I might not be able to keep my puppy of less than 24 hours. Joint ill was the diagnosis. He was lanced with a big + sign and I was told to flush daily with water and give antibiotics for 2 weeks. No recheck, nothing. I called Katharine when I got home. She told me what else I could be doing for poor little Kato.
Who knew that dogs liked asparagus and that it is good for their (and our) joints! Katharine did. She also said to add sea salt and colloidal silver to the flush and a few other minerals to add to his diet. In 2 days his leg was almost normal. No pain. No heat. In a week, the worst thing I was dealing with was the plus sign the Vet left. That quiet little puppy is now a 90 pound, 8 month old, full of energy and life... thanks to our friend Katharine.

Thanks again for the (Elderquestrian) Clinic. I really liked your idea of using the props to keep us impeccable as riders. Using the cones and circles was especially useful for me since it gave me definite boundaries to try to keep to... I took (Cricket) on a short trail ride alone today. When we went through a scary patch where there is a narrow opening between high bushes and brush and under overhanging trees, she was alert at first and then tucked when asked and moved on through - with only one little startle when some birds were rustling around. But I think my constantly keeping her aware that I am there diverts her to the task instead of the danger.
Plus, I let her know that I am watching, too - so she doesn't have to do all the watching herself.
I also got some "frosting in my hair" while working Cricket on circling <grin> Now I understand when I do it. Thanks for the great visual.
It was great fun and a good learning experience. I look forward to doing more!
